The K-Drama Light Shop revolves around the ‘Light Shop,’ the only place that brightens up a dark alley, where customers with different mysterious secrets come to seek help. These customers are actually people who have lost consciousness due to accidents and are at the crossroads between life and death. They are in what is known as a “coma” state, wandering in the afterlife. Drawn to the Light Shop’s light, they come to find their own light bulb, and the story unfolds as they choose it.
The show’s primary settings are an emergency room in a hospital, where unconscious patients and their nurses are, and a dark street in the afterlife, where these patients wander.
The sudden influx of patients in the emergency room is due to a bus accident that occurred a few days ago, in which the bus fell off a bridge. The accident resulted in unconscious patients and many casualties.
What is the Light Bulb in the K-Drama Light Shop?
What is the significance of the Light Shop? Everyone has their own light bulb, which represents their life. When the light bulb goes out, it means the person dies. Now, can you guess the meaning of the Light Shop? The people wandering in the dark, unfamiliar streets must find their light bulb at the Light Shop in order to stay alive. But they must do this by their own will! No one can do it for them. Ultimately, the show conveys the message that one must hold on to life by their own will.
Personally, the line that stayed with me the most in this show is “Let’s never meet again.” This phrase means a message telling others not to experience such an accident again and not to come to this place. At first glance, it may seem cold, but it actually contains a warmth that expresses concern for the well-being of others.
Characters in the show
Every character in this show has their own story. For example, a man and his mute girlfriend face opposition from the man’s mother, who wants them to break up. However, on his way to meet her one last time, the man is involved in the bus accident. Another couple, two women in love, are on their way to look at an apartment they want to move into when they end up on the same bus and also meet with an accident. On a rainy day, a mother and her high school daughter, who is waiting for her with an umbrella, also end up on the ill-fated bus and are caught in the crash.
The strong performances of the actors
The strong performances of the actors add a lot to the immersion in the show. There are several moments that are impossible to watch without shedding tears. Among these, the last conversation between the high school daughter and her mother made me cry out loud.
As 2024 draws to a close, if you are looking for a warm human drama, especially one disguised as a horror story, I would highly recommend this show without hesitation!
